How do our choices affect us? Sometimes a choice can result in shortening a life — like the choice to drink and drive. Sometimes choosing not to do something can have an impact (pun intended) — like not wearing a seatbelt in the car.
Eating junk food seems pretty benign when you compare it to some activities that can have more immediate negative results. I guess we all pick our own trade-off :)
Choices I make every day can have a profound impact on me and those around me. Even seemingly small things, like giving my full attention to my family when they talk to me — not letting my attention wander to the TV or my iPhone.
Some choices are just about me. My choice as a teenager to spend time “working on my suntan” was not a good choice for me — fair skin and burn-burn-burn. Sunburns and skin cancer — I know now what I didn’t know then.
It seems to be in our nature to know something is bad for us and do it anyway. Especially when we’re young. We tend to think we’re indestructible when we’re young and take more risks.
I’m less likely to take a risk now than I would have when I was much younger. Risks with things we do every day, like driving. When you have kids in the car, you think twice about pulling out in front of another vehicle because they’re making you wait.
The choice of the convenient over the time-consuming. I still struggle with that. If it takes more time, then I don’t always want to do it. Choosing the convenient will have a trade-off of some kind. Consider the trade-off, and then make your choice.
