Write what you know, right? I wrote this easy reference tech book because I use the module.
Some inside pages above
I have a client who dictates very long medicolegal reports. I can understand him, so I thought I’d try the transcribe module (how-to described in my tech book!) Well, it sorta worked, but there were so many little bitty changes, that I decided to try the dictate portion.
I set up the dictation on my Surface with an earbud so I could hear the doctor dictate without having the speaker pick up his voice. I would grab a few sentences, pause the dictation, and speak them into the computer.
Sounds cumbersome, right?! I can definitely type it faster than working in this way; however, after typing 6 or 8 hours a day for 30+ years, my hands hurt. It was worth it to me just for that. It didn’t really save me time, but it sure saved my hands.
If I have a lengthy dictation which is mostly text (not numbers) and a doctor who speaks clearly, I can use the transcribe module and do a simple edit — even if I’m only using portions of the transcription.
I have one physician who dictates EMG/NCV studies, which is the study they do to see if a patient has carpal tunnel — lots of numbers. But the history, examination and impression are text. So I grab the pieces that work and plug them into the document form. Then I listen to the dictation and edit as I listen.
The book is up on Amazon in soft cover. I’ll be putting it up as an ebook and uploading to other ebook/print sites in the next week or so.
Thank you for reading!
